What's a remote photo session?

Two children standing on a black outdoor table, holding hands with two adults assisting them. One child is young with blonde hair, wearing a brown sleeveless dress. The other child is slightly taller, wearing a striped green and white shirt with light-colored shorts. The background shows a house with a brick wall and greenery.

IN SHORT:

A remote photography session is a virtual shoot completed via the connection from my phone to yours. Your camera is used to capture what my eyes are seeing + it makes for some truly genuine imagery from the comfort of your own home.

I’m here — you’re there, yet we’re together.

Remote photography allows us to close the geographical gap + create imagery that lasts. Here’s how we’re going to do it:

A woman with tattoos on her arm is lying on a bed, smiling, as she kisses a baby. The baby, wearing a white outfit, is embracing the woman. They are close together in a loving gesture.

I : The App

Our session is made possible by the CLOS app. You’ll need to download it + have it ready prior to our start. I will have a link that’s specific to our shoot to send your way just prior to our scheduled time.

The photos are taken via your device but will be stored on mine. In order for this to happen you will be required to keep the app open after our session until I confirm they’ve all been transferred properly.

II : Our Hands

We are going to need something to act as my hands. Likely, you’ll be spending the majority of our time together modeling so having a tripod, a friend, or some ingenuity is important here.

Often you can find some basic phone tripods for below $30 — I will link you here to the one I purchased. It won me over with the thought of being able to use it on my own in the future if I found the urge to hook it to my stroller + snap some shameless mom selfies.

Don’t be discouraged however if you’re not interested in purchasing a tripod. Either sweet talk a friend or find an elastic + spare soup can! This entire process is all about pushing limits so feel free to get creative with this part.

III : Homework

Now we have to talk about your assignment before we get started. At Heartstring Heirlooms, photography is all about feelings, memories, + LIGHT.

Be on the lookout for your favorite spots in your home or yard and when they are most interestingly lit. I love being a part of this homework process — so feel free to snap photos of these nooks + spaces and send them my way so we can brainstorm as a team on how to make the most of our session together.

FINAL : What to Expect

There’s an extra element of dazzle + serendipity to this kind of session — let’s embrace it! I promise these are not merely glorified selfies.

It may feel not exactly put together; and that’s okay. We may have moments of chaos (yay technology) — but those always tell a story! If you come into this process eager to welcome the unpredictable then you will find yourself awestruck with the magic uncovered + brought to the surface by your vulnerability and the soft direction from myself.

This is going to be good my friend.
